A recent deal that was slated to bring 50 electric minicabs to the Capital’s streets has fallen through.

Taxi insurance, E6 hybrid

Cab firm Green Tomato Cars, a company that also has bases in the US, had agreed a deal with Chinese firm BYD that would have meant adding a fleet of 50 E6 electric cabs to their already 500 strong fleet of hybrid taxis.

A report from Green Tomato Cars has confirmed that the deal is no longer taking place as the two companies have mutually agreed not to continue with the order. The deal was postponed last year and the vehicles were not going to be delivered within the agreed timescale but no details of why this happened or why the deal has collapsed have been released.

Another taxi firm however have agreed to use 20 of the E6 electric cabs on London’s streets. The company, Thriev, have installed two of the E6 charging devices at their premises on Edgware Road. These devices can fully replenish the batteries on the cabs in just two hours and on one single charge they have a range of an astonishing 186 miles.

London Mayor, Boris Johnson, has already announced that all new black cabs in London will have to have electric only capabilities by 2018 in order to help reduce emissions across the capital.

In recent news, Nissan are now planning to develop their own electric vehicles aimed at the black cab market.
